The ordinary powers of the President, coupled with moral courage and political will to do what is right is more than adequate to put an end to the political violence and lawlessness in the area.

Yes, I would put more resources on health care as well as for the other basic needs of our people, which is part of their fundamental right that government must provide and protect. I will also urge the private sector to contribute towards easing the burden upon the people in meeting the growing cost of medicines and other basic medical services.

Do you think the growth of these sectors is sustainable? Should we encourage the BPO industry? What would you propose to protect the rights of BPO workers?
We must recognize, whether we like it or not that unless we are able to provide our people with decent and stable jobs, we should take advantage of the BPO industry and the opportunities provided for our OFWs. Beggars cannot be choosers.

My Stand: On Muslim Mindanao |
|
How do you solve these problems that have been breeding violence in Mindanao? Do you think granting them ancestral domain would pave the way for progress?
There is causality between poverty and corruption everywhere it exists in the country and serves as a breeding ground for crime and other forms of social unrest. Unless corruption is eradicated a great majority of our people, not only our Muslim brothers and sisters in Mindanao will continue to suffer from all its ill-effects.

My Stand: On Agriculture and Food Security |
|
How do you propose to sustain agriculture production? Should we put more money on agriculture? What will be your government’s approach to achieving food security?
We should revisit with urgency our Agrarian Reform Program because of its fundamental flaws. Any viable land reform program must be aimed at making the country not only self sufficient, and secure in food production but also result in the net exportation of these products. Many of our Asian neighbors that have acquired their production skills in Philippine institutions of learning have long overtaken us in their outputs, because their policies on agrarian reforms were be based on the maximum utilization of agricultural lands, and not merely to provide land to the landless. It is quite sad that the object of our land reform law only serves the personal agenda of politicians and national leaders and does not achieve the greatest efficiency in land production.
